Two things to share this morning… At the end of July, @MotherDucker (on Counter Social) came across this YouTube (HERE) and sent it to me. It’s about “a spooky little ghost named Emily Dickinson.” You can get the full text of the rap by clicking on the three dots & then clicking on “Description.” Also, last night this article of 42 slides popped up on my computer, “The Dark and Mysterious Life of Emily Dickinson," HERE. Well, it’s interesting to flip through the slides, but it’s nothing all that dark and mysterious. It even gets a few things wrong. For example, it refers several times to Dickinson’s friend and mentor Thomas Wentworth Higginson and Thomas Wentworth Higgins. Also, in slide 35 the author states “One of the most famous stories about Dickinson is that she would insist on only wearing white clothes. However, this wasn’t true, thanks in part to Dickinson’s own testimony. In one of her letters, Dickinson spoke of a brown dress that she owned. There are also pictures of the reclusive poet wearing dark clothing. Frankly, with photographic evidence to the contrary, you’d think an urban myth like that would have lost traction a long time ago!” |
That is hardly “photographic evidence to the contrary.”
BTW, in the pic below on the right, Dickinson is thought to be the woman on the left.
