After the wind’d subsided in Loomis’ yarn, and a few low clouds were a-glowin’ athwart the hills with intensest light, the talker in the poh-em done claimed, “The river flowed like liquid chrysoprase,” and I mocked Eben Loomis and asked, “Chrysoprase? Seriously?” But then purdy quickly on I says, “Okay, I best not be so haughty, because I just checked the online Dickinson archive for ‘chrysoprase,’ and guess who used the word in two poems? LOL – I’ll follow up on that tomorrow.” I was humbled to the tallow.
So here I am with my tail tucked, and I reckon I’s got a little confession to make to y’all. Lord a mercy – I done wrote about Dickinson’s use of “Chrysoprase” afore! At least a coupla times. Talk about yer day-zha-voo!
| I first mentioned the word – in its alternate spelling – at the tippy end of this post, HERE. I up and asked, “Who here knows what ‘Chrysophras’ is?” I added a li’l smirky “LOL” too. Then come the followin’ daylight – well, actually a few morns later – but that don’t make no nevermind – I wrote about “Chrysophras” agin – and here ’tis right yonder -- HERE. So I jes thought I’d git this off my chest and clear my conscience and give ol’ Eben Loomis the last laugh – tho I’ll have more to say about his use of the word “athwart” on tomorrow. Y’all come back now, ya hear. |
