Party Animals

As we all have witnessed Trump’s and the GOP’s dismantling of our government, destruction of our society, and committed and continued efforts to divide our nation, people often point to these lines from George Orwell’s 1984: 

“The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”

Afterall, Trump himself told Maggots, "What you're seeing and what you're reading is not what's happening."

However, lines from Orwell’s Animal Farm which are not quoted as often are just as meaningful:

"At the foot of the end wall of the White House, where the Seven Commandments were painted, there lay a ladder broken in two pieces. Trump, temporarily stunned, was sprawling beside it, and near at hand there lay a lantern, a paint-brush, and an overturned pot of white paint. Deputized ICE Klansmen immediately made a ring round Trump, and escorted him back to the White House as soon as his diaper was changed. None of the citizens could accept what all of this meant, and they nodded with a knowing air. They understood that they would have to speak up and take action."

One of Orwell's inspirations for writing Animal Farm was Emmett Lee Dickinson's poem "The Products fo their Farm are these," below on the left.  Dickinson's poem also inspired his third cousin Emily to pen her poem "The Products of my Farm are these," below on the right.
