In “I’ll tell you how the Sun rose,” Dickinson paints a beautiful sunrise when “The Steeples swam in Amethyst” and “The Hill untied their Bonnets.” I posted this because the beauty of the day depicted in the poem reminded me of how beautiful the day was on 9/11/2001 – the infamous day in America when we were attacked by terrorist extremists. Of course, if you were around on 9/11/2001, I’m sure you remember exactly where you were when you heard the news of the attack – as I do – and I remember the beautiful weather we had and the beautiful clear blue sky. Have you been to the 9/11 Memorial in New York City? It’s quite moving – and on a giant wall near the entrance, there is an installation by artist Spencer Finch called “Trying to Remember the Color of the Sky on That September Morning.” |
That site and more info is HERE.
Finch’s work inspired me to document the look of the sky throughout the year 2018. I posted a pic of the sky each of the day on Instagram (@daily_sky_pic) – and on a handful of occasions I would add additional pictures; for example, on March 24, 2018, when we attended the “March for Our Lives” in Washington DC, a protest against gun violence in our schools, and on June 30 when we attended the “Families Belong Together” protest against Trump’s policies to separate immigrant families and cage children.
