In my area, schools opened about two weeks ago, but in many areas, “the day after Labor Day” is still the standard!
I substitute teach in two local middle schools, and today I was a 6th grade English/Language Arts teacher.
I was going to post this info earlier today, but alas, due to some sort of area-wide issue, internet access was down. Sooo…better late than never, huh?
Dickinson wrote 15 poems which use the word “school” (including “Because I could not stop for Death”), but my favorite school-related poem of hers never even mentions the word, “From all the Jails the Boys and Girls.” LOL – “school” is described as both a “jail” and a “prison.” My favorite image of all occurs in lines 5 and 6, when – at the end of the school day – “they storm the Earth and stun the Air / A Mob of solid Bliss.” I was a participant in that mob this afternoon.
