Celebrate Emmett Lee Dickinson's 213th birthday with a bunch of DOPEs
(members of the Dickinson Organization of Poetry Enthusiasts)
this October in historic WASherst, Pennsylvania --
"The City That Never IS And Always WAS!"

KEYNOTE SPEAKER:  IAN ZIERING ~ Mega-star of the Sharknado Trilogy!

Picture
Ian Ziering, who attended the Emmett Lee School for Boys in Beverly Hills 90210, will open the 2015 DOPE Conference with a lecture and Power Point presentation on the true-life weather phenomenon known as a "Sharknado," first identified by Emmett Lee Dickinson (Emily Dickinson's third cousin, twice removed -- at her request) following the Great Sharknado of Washerst in 1883.

Dickinson wrote a poem about the event entitled "A Flash of gray across the sky," and that poem inspired  David Rimawi and a host of others to produce "Sharknado," the 2013 mega-hit loosely based on the storm in Washerst.

"Sharknado," "Sharknado 2: The Second One," and "Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!" starred Ziering as Fin Shepard, a character based on true-to-life events of Emmett Lee Dickinson.
Below left:  The poem "A Flash of Gray across the sky" by Emmett Lee Dickinson inspired three "Sharknado" movies.  Below right:  Dickinson's poem also inspired his third cousin Emily to write "A Cap of Lead across the sky."
By Emmett Lee Dickinson:

A Flash of Gray across the sky
Was tight and surly coiled
For it was filled with mighty Fish
The Figures dark and roiled –

A Chill came up for there were sharks
All swirling in a cell
A fierce Sharknado with the charms
Of Agony and of Hell.
By Emily Dickinson:

A Cap of Lead across the sky
Was tight and surly drawn
We could not find the mighty Face
The Figure was withdrawn --

A Chill came up as from a shaft
Our noon became a well
A Thunder storm combines the charms
Of Winter and of Hell.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER:  ELVIS DURAN ~ Radio Personality & Lover of Corn

Elvis Duran -- radio personality extraordinaire, devoted fan of Emmett Lee Dickinson, frequent visitor to the Emmett Lee Dickinson Museum (above the coin-op Laundromat on Dickinson Boulevard), and lover of corn -- will present a half-day symposium called "What Everyone Ought To Know About The Macro Trends Affecting Today's Corn Market."

Duran attended the Emmett Lee School for Boys in Dallas/Fort Worth, and he said from the time he first sampled Dickinson's recipe for corn chowder in the school's cafeteria, "I was hooked!"  Duran shares Dickinson's fascination with corn, and he will also present information about his love of corn in a special two-hour workshop entitled "Maybe I'm a-Maized."

SPECIAL GUEST:  FLORENE "FLO" KESHISHMARPETRODONABEDIAN

Picture
Flo Keshishmarpetrodonabedian is more than an Insurance shill and poetry lover (of course, her favorite poet is Emmett Lee Dickinson -- Emily Dickinson's third cousin, twice removed -- at her request).  She is also the at-large member of the Board of Directors of the National Traffic Light and Traffic Sign Museum in Washerst, PA (birthplace of Emmett Lee Dickinson).

She will be on hand to discuss the all-but-forgotten protests of road workers everywhere.  Throughout the history of the United States, road workers and pavers have mounted significant protest movements to "End Roadwork," "End Mowing," and "End Construction"; however, their pleas always go unheard or are ignored.

She will also discuss Emmett Lee Dickinson's poetry associated with the Bridge-gate scandal of the 1880s.  Information can be found
HERE.

Other Dignitaries and VIP Guests Include the Following:

El Chapo

Did you know that Emmett Lee Dickinson once helped someone escape from prison (documented in Volume 1 of Great American Poems ~REPOEMED).

El Chapo (via Skype) will be part of a panel discussion that will include Joyce Mitchell, Nick Nolte, and Condoleezza Rice.

Dick Poop

Dick Poop is an events planner for the Dickinson Organization of Poetry Enthusiasts (DOPE).  His life was turned upside-down when the president of the Motion Pictures Academy, Cheryl Boone Isaacs, announced the Academy Award nomination for cinematographer Dick Pope (for his work on "Mr. Turner"), but misspoke and called him "Dick Poop."  The Internet went crazy with endless ridicule.  Mr. Poop will be on hand to discuss the experience.

"Emmett" the Parrot

"Emmett," the Pittsburgh Pirate's parrot mascot, will lead a workshop on Emmett Lee Dickinson's influence on major league sports.

Paula Deen & Pope Francis

Back by popular demand, Paula Deen and Pope Francis will be in the kitchen at Dickinson's Restaurant whipping up their world-famous bourbon-bacon pancakes with barrel-aged bourbon whiskey syrup!

Paula promises to use lots of butter -- and Pope Francis promises to keep Paula busy so she won't have time to yap!
