as we like to call it)

FOR THE ELEVENTH CUP
OF COFFEE POETRY BY EMMETT LEE DICKINSON.

Picture

FeBREWary 28

By Emmett Lee Dickinson:

At last – to be reenergized –

At last – the cup upon my lips   life???
The best of life – to see –

Past Midnight – Past the Morning Star –
Past Sunrise – Ah, What Brews
          there are –

Between My Sleep – and Day!

Picture

By Emily Dickinson:

At last -- to be identified –
At last – the lamps upon your side –
The rest of life – to see –

Past Midnight – Past the Morning Star –
Past Sunrise – Ah, What Leagues
          there were –

Between Our Feet – and Day!

FeBREWary 27

By Emmett Lee Dickinson:

The Joes the sleepy drink
Add extra energy
And those with second cups
Are beautiful –

By Emily Dickinson:

The words the happy say
Are paltry melody
But those the silent feel
Are beautiful –

FeBREWary 26

By Emmett Lee Dickinson:

My Maker – let it be
In service for a Joe
For nearer this
I more will go –

By Emily Dickinson:

My Maker – let me be
Enamored most of thee –
But nearer this
I more should miss –

FeBREWary 25

By Emmett Lee Dickinson:

To wake with energy
Had we the Wings
Many would fly
Inured to slower things
Is no surprise
We open the coffee can
Of Grounds for brewing
For the mind of man.

By Emily Dickinson:

To flee from memory
Had we the Wings
Many would fly
Inured to slower things
Birds with surprise
Would scan the cowering Van
Of men escaping
From the mind of man

FeBREWary 24

By Emmett Lee Dickinson:

The vastest coffee Cup
Is drunken straight
By one Devoted Face
Before the Day –

Picture

By Emily Dickinson:

The vastest earthly Day
Is shrunken small
By one Defaulting Face
Behind a Pall –

FeBREWary 23

By Emmett Lee Dickinson:

Some one prepared this mighty Joe

To which without Delay I go
The mornings and the Days –
Dismayed before the soonest Pot
And I must partake of it – while hot

Picture

By Emily Dickinson:

Some one prepared this mighty show
To which without a Ticket go
The nations and the Days --
Displayed before the simplest Door
That all may examine them – and more,

FeBREWary 22

By Emmett Lee Dickinson:

I shall keep driving!

Cars will pass me
On their way with wearier Ones –
Each – with Robotic automation –
I – with my Dark Roast –
And my Buns –

Late – when I take my place in the car
          park –

But – I shall sing a fuller tune –
Vivid – livelier than Others –
          Astir –

Morning – only the seed – of noon –

Picture

By Emily Dickinson:

I shall keep singing!
Birds will pass me
On their way to Yellower Climes –
Each – with a Robin's expectation –
I – with my Redbreast –
And my Rhymes –

Late – when I take my place in
          summer –

But – I shall bring a fuller tune –
Vespers – are sweeter than Matins –
          Signor –

Morning – only the seed -- of noon –

FeBREWary 21

By Emmett Lee Dickinson:

To this World I returned
And with a tinge of thought –
A Compelled manner,
With a Joe
A caffeine Pilot
To lift me to the Skies
And to myself, allied,
Dwelt percolating, all the Dawn,
And all the Day, wide-Eyed

Picture

By Emily Dickinson:

To this World she returned.
But with a tinge of that --
A Compound manner,
As a Sod
Espoused a Violet,
That chiefer to the Skies
Than to himself, allied,
Dwelt hesitating, half of Dust,
And half of Day, the Bride.

FeBREWary 20

By Emmett Lee Dickinson:

“I want” – I pleaded – For it’s life –
I want – was chief I said
When percolating it – the first –
And when so nearly dead –

I could not dream too late – I heard
That alarm – steadfast plea –
My lips then placed and with a “Thanks”
Toward high Energy

Picture

By Emily Dickinson:

"I want" – it pleaded – All its life –
I want – was chief it said
When Skill entreated it – the last –
And when so newly dead –

I could not deem it late – to hear
That single – steadfast sigh –
The lips had placed as with a "Please"
Toward Eternity –

FeBREWary 19

By Emmett Lee Dickinson:

Expectation – is Excitement –
Gain – Energy –
And Energy – Conviction
Of Necessity

Of a Vital charge in Spirit –
Zest, with some allure
In a well established Routine –
Power – drinking Some –

Picture

By Emily Dickinson:

Expectation – is Contentment –
Gain – Satiety –
But Satiety – Conviction
Of Necessity

Of an Austere trait in Pleasure –
Good, without alarm
Is a too established Fortune –
Danger – deepens Sum –

FeBREWary 18

By Emmett Lee Dickinson:

We knew not when we were to live –
Nor when we were to rise –
Our salvation our Coffee is–
To grant Vitality
So dimly in my Sleeping Gown
Till forced to take it off –
By some intrusion, God I know –
I drink a cup of Life –

Picture

By Emily Dickinson:

We knew not that we were to live –
Nor when we are to die –
Our ignorance our Cuirass is –
We wear Mortality
As lightly as an Option Gown
Till asked to take it off –
By his intrusion, God is known –
It is the same with Life –

FeBREWary 17

By Emmett Lee Dickinson:

Time’s weary Sleepers will now wake
For any Pot of Joes
And there – they never hesitate
To cool the heat with blows

Picture
Click the pic above to learn how to make a latte art dog.
By Emily Dickinson:

Time’s wily Chargers will not wait
At any Gate but Woe’s
But there – so gloat to hesitate
They will not stir for blows

FeBREWary 16

By Emmett Lee Dickinson:

The Joys of Coffee, can be known
To no one but the Beat –
Devotion to High Energy
Will get him on his Feet

Picture

By Emily Dickinson:

The Sweets of Pillage, can be known
To no one but the Thief –
Compassion for Integrity
Is his divinest Grief

FeBREWary 15

By Emmett Lee Dickinson:

I went to Heaven –
‘Twas a tall Cup
Filled – with a Coffee –
Drank – it Up –

Flavor – from the beans
At their Debut –
Beautiful – as Pictures –
No Man drew.
People – like the Moth
Is known to – flames –
Drink up – of Café Noir
And Caffeine – gains
Always– contented –
I – could be –
‘Mong such unique
Intensity –

Picture

By Emily Dickinson:

I went to Heaven –
'Twas a small Town –
Lit – with a Ruby –
Lathed – with Down –

Stiller – than the fields
At the full Dew –
Beautiful – as Pictures –
No Man drew.
People – like the Moth –
Of Mechlin – frames –
Duties – of Gossamer –
And Eider – names –
Almost – contented –
I – could be –
'Mong such unique
Society –

FeBREWary 14

By Emmett Lee Dickinson:

‘Tis customary when I rise
A Coffee – to consume –
It helps to stimulate the brain
When Life be anew –

‘Tis glorious – as the glorious taste –
My Status – foreseeing more –
Presents me with a nimble World –
Of my Eclectic Flare –

Picture

By Emily Dickinson:

'Tis customary as we part
A trinket – to confer –
It helps to stimulate the faith
When Love be afar –

'Tis various – as the various taste –
Clematis – journeying far –
Presents me with a single Curl
Of her Electric Hair –

FeBREWary 13

By Emmett Lee Dickinson:

The Sleeper at the Hour of Dawn
Is easily in stride
When Coffee – that Diviner thing –
Is not to be denied

Picture

By Emily Dickinson:

The Beggar at the Door for Fame
Were easily supplied
But Bread is that Diviner thing
Disclosed to be denied

FeBREWary 12

By Emmett Lee Dickinson:

There is a Need for Liveliness –
Confronting First Light’s Health –
A frantic Need for Energy
Inflicted on Myself –

A cuppa Joe – a Stale Man needs  –
Acknowledged – of the Bean –
One More – “I’m Blessed” – to behold –
And that’s – Due to Caffeine

Picture

By Emily Dickinson:

There is a Shame of Nobleness –
Confronting Sudden Pelf –
A finer Shame of Ecstasy –
Convicted of Itself –

A best Disgrace – a Brave Man feels –
Acknowledged – of the Brave –
One More – "Ye Blessed" – to be told –
But that's – Behind the Grave –

FeBREWary 11

By Emmett Lee Dickinson:

We never know how low we are

Till we are asked to rise
And then if we are true to plan
Our brew provides us highs –

The Caffeinated Cups we hold
Are now a normal thing
For now ourselves the Coffee’s warm
With hopes elixirs bring –

Picture

By Emily Dickinson:

We never know how high we are
Till we are asked to rise
And then if we are true to plan
Our statures touch the skies –

The Heroism we recite
Would be a normal thing
Did not ourselves the Cubits warp
For fear to be a King –

FeBREWary 10

By Emmett Lee Dickinson:

The Life we have is very great.
The Life that we shall see
Surpasses it, we know, because
It's fueled with coffee beans
And when all Cups have been beheld
And all the Joes are downed
The utmost Human Heart's extent
Reveals itself to all.

Picture

By Emily Dickinson:

The Life we have is very great.
The Life that we shall see
Surpasses it, we know, because
It is Infinity.
But when all Space has been beheld
And all Dominion shown
The smallest Human Heart's extent
Reduces it to none.

FeBREWary 9

By Emmett Lee Dickinson:

We introduce ourselves
To Mornings and to Hours
But with ourselves
Need energy
Empowerment
And joes

Picture

By Emily Dickinson:

We introduce ourselves
To Planets and to Flowers
But with ourselves
Have etiquettes
Embarrassments
And awes

FeBREWary 8

By Emmett Lee Dickinson:

Not seeing, still I wake –
Not waking, rise –
Not rising, groan and hide
And half covered –
And quake – and roll over,
Emphatic fear –
No Coffee’s in the maker
“Dare l rise?”

Picture

By Emily Dickinson:

Not seeing, still we know
–
Not knowing, guess
–
Not guessing, smile and hide
And half caress
–
And quake
– and turn away,
Seraphic fear
–
Is Eden's innuendo
"If you dare"?

FeBREWary 7

By Emmett Lee Dickinson:

Sweet Coffee of the pot,
Now Coffee of the Cup
Will’t lifteth me?
Some spice’s Blend in thee
–
Some Piquant purity?
Reside in me.

Picture

By Emily Dickinson:

Sweet Pirate of the heart,
Not Pirate of the Sea,
What wrecketh thee?
Some spice's Mutiny
–
Some Attar's perfidy?
Confide in me.

FeBREWary 6

By Emmett Lee Dickinson:

I bet that every Kind of brew
That Nature has within
Employed a Cup to visit me
And liven my Commute –

Picture
Click the pic above to see a Latte Art Tutorial.
By Emily Dickinson:

I bet with every Wind that blew
Till Nature in chagrin
Employed a Fact to visit me
And scuttle my Balloon
–

FeBREWary 5

By Emmett Lee Dickinson:

Too quick the mornings come,
Too fast the nights.
No waking can be had
Without delights
That come in cups each day
To grant us life before
We ride away

Picture
Click the pic above to learn some common latte art patterns.
By Emily Dickinson:

Too few the mornings be,
Too scant the nights.
No lodging can be had
For the delights
That come to earth to stay,
But no apartment find
And ride away.

FeBREWary 4

By Emmett Lee Dickinson:

It is given to me by the Gods –
When I rise and greet the World
It gives us Power most –
          you know –
When we are new – and bold.
I hold it in my hand –
I always gulp it down –
I do not dare to put – it down –
For fear it would be gone –
I use such words as "Rich"
When hurrying to work –
My lips at Corners of the Lid –
I swallow with a smile.
Rich! 'Tis my cup – that’s rich –
To take the name of Joe
It’s Gold to own – in Coffee Cups –
The Difference – makes me bold –

Picture

By Emily Dickinson:

It was given to me by the Gods –
When I was a little Girl –
They give us Presents most –
          you know –
When we are new – and small.
I kept it in my Hand –
I never put it down –
I did not dare to eat – or sleep –
For fear it would be gone –
I heard such words as "Rich" –
When hurrying to school –
From lips at Corners of the Streets –
And wrestled with a smile.
Rich! 'Twas Myself – was rich –
To take the name of Gold –
And Gold to own – in solid Bars –
The Difference – made me bold –

FeBREWary 3

By Emmett Lee Dickinson:

Could -- you do more -- for Me --
Wert Thou a Coffee Cup -
Since for the Day, have I –
Now to Wake up?

By Emily Dickinson:

Could — I do more — for Thee --

Wert Thou a Bumble Bee --
Since for the Queen, have I --
Nought but Bouquet?

FeBREWary 2

By Emmett Lee Dickinson:

The Body rests with sleep –
A most convenient way
–
Then if one's Spirit – tries to hide
A Coffee brews, alway,

A cup
– secure – inviting
It never does betray
The Soul does take its power
In solemn honesty

Picture

By Emily Dickinson:

The Body grows without
–
The more convenient way
–
That if the Spirit
– like to hide
Its Temple stands, alway,

Ajar
– secure – inviting –
It never did betray
The Soul that asked its shelter
In solemn honesty

FeBREWary 1

By Emmett Lee Dickinson:

My Poems are laid away in Cups –
I have one Chapter more –
A Few which you have never seen
Though I have scanned them o’er –
And percolated more between
And others at my side,
I’ll choose the best – Neglecting
          none
– till
All the posts are made –
How sweet they are you’ll soon find out
By Turns I’ll post them all –
Since my first Post and now year ten
Of caffeine zealotry –

Picture

By Emily Dickinson:

My Wars are laid away in Books –
I have one Battle more –
A Foe whom I have never seen
But oft has scanned me o'er –
And hesitated me between
And others at my side,
But chose the best – Neglecting
          me – till

All the rest, have died –
How sweet if I am not forgot
By Chums that passed away –
Since Playmates at threescore and ten
Are such a scarcity –
