THE 2018 DOPE CONFERENCE
OCTOBER 12 - 14, 2018

Picture

The theme for the 2018 DOPE Conference is as current & critical
as today's headlines:

"THE TRUTH ABOUT EMMETT LEE DICKINSON ISN'T THE TRUTH"

On 9/21/18, in a tweet about SCOTUS nominee Brett Kavanaugh, Donald Trump said, "Facts don't matter."
Nothing could be closer to the truth with this year's DOPE conference!

What is the "truth" about Emmett Lee Dickinson, Emily Dickinson's third cousin, twice removed --at her request?  This October, Dickinson scholars, addicts, and enthusiasts will gather in Washerst, Pennsylvania, to discuss this very question.

"The truth about Emmett Lee Dickinson is not the truth whether you do not believe it or not," reports Dorothy "Lottie" Dawe, the Chairman of the Board for the Dickinson Organization of Poetry Enthusiasts.

"What you think you understand about what you thought you knew about the poet," said Dawe, "is not what you think you knew about what you have read and heard.  The truth just isn't the truth."

Join DOPE in Washerst from October 12th through the 14th for an in-depth examination of alternative facts about the poet's life and work.

Keynote Speakers & Other Guests

CHILDISH GAMBINO

Musician and rapper Childish Gambino will be at the 2018 DOPE conference to debut "This Is Washerst," the eagerly anticipated prequel to his music video "This Is America."  Filmed entirely on the 2nd level of the Washerst Self-Park parking garage on Dickinson Boulevard in historic Washerst, PA (the birthplace of Emmett Lee Dickinson), "This Is Washerst" addresses the issues of poor poetry book sales in the United States, along with a look at longstanding lyricism and versification of Poetic-Americans.

CLOUDY DANIELS

Cloudy Daniels, older sister of porn star Stormy Daniels, is the United State's preeminent writer of adult poetry -- also known as "poemography."

Pictured at the left: Cloudy Daniels' first book of poetry, "What Rhymes With Venus" spent more than 130 weeks at the top spot on the New York Times best-seller list.  One reviewer stated, “Cloudy Daniels’ ‘What Rhymes With Venus’ will stand as the finest and most gripping poemography book of our era.”

Cloudy reported recently that she is planning to follow up her mega-successful tome with a second volume of adult poetry called "Hush Money."

"'Hush Money' will include an epic poem focused on Donald Trump, the head of the Trump Crime Family, and his wrongdoings associated with the 2016 presidential election" said Daniels in an exclusive interview with Kevin Young, poetry editor of The New Yorker.

"The poem will be called 'Electile Dysfunction.'" reported Daniels.

THE WALMART YODEL BOY

The Walmart Yodel Boy from Harrisburg, Illinois, will be on hand to read the poem by Emmett Lee Dickinson that inspired Hank Williams to write his hit song "Jambalaya."  The poem begins as follows:

Because I could not stop for crawfish pie and fillet gumbo
They kindly stopped for me.
The potage held but just the spice
Of Jambalaya on the bayou --

WE ARE SORRY TO ANNOUNCE THAT
ARETHA FRANKLIN WILL NOT BE PRESENT

We were heartbroken to learn of the passing of Aretha Franklin.  She was an ardent fan of Emmett Lee Dickinson, and we at the Dickinson Organization of Poetry Enthusiasts will miss her very much.

Ms. Franklin was going to be on hand at the 2018 DOPE Conference to sing her new hit "I-M-P-E-A-C-H."

THIS JUST IN:  BILL NYE, THE SCIENCE GUY,
WILL BE IN ATTENDANCE!

Bill Nye, the science guy -- and the Emmett Lee Dickinson guy -- will be in attendance at the 2018 DOPE conference to discuss Dickinson's trials and tribulations as a scientist (Info HERE) and inventor (info HERE).

"While Dickinson has been credited with more inventions and discoveries than Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Edison combined," said Nye, "not everything Dickinson worked on was  a success."

Nye plans to discuss and explore some of Dickinson's failures including a lubricant called "WD-39," an ointment named "Preparation G," and an adhesive known as "Irish Tape."   Dickinson also struck out in some infamous business ventures including a hamburger chain called "Four Guys," a group of amusement parks known as "Five Flags," and a chain of convenience stores called "7-10."
