Near the end of the Coen brother’s film “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” when Ulysses Everett McGill reunites with his daughters – who think their father had been long ago hit by a train – they treat him with more than a modicum of caution, especially since their Mama’s got a brand new beau in the form of one Vernon T. Waldrip.
“I’m the only damn daddy you got! I’m the damn paterfamilias!” protested Everett.
