If you have visited Washerst (pronounced WAS-herst) recently, and/or if you follow our site, then you know that the Emmett Lee Dickinson Museum (above the coin-op Laundromat on Dickinson Boulevard) burned down in an inferno that raged through the historic downtown area on New Year's Eve (information is HERE and HERE).
Currently, we are exploring the possibility of rebuilding the museum and recreating the Great Hall of Wax Figures. Led by our Chief Financial Officer William "Bill" Stapay, a committee to study of the feasibility of reconstruction is currently examining sites near the Washerst mattress dump, in the basement of the Babes and Balls Bowling Alley, and in an annex of the Kleen Kitty Kat Litter kitty litter factory.
Of course, one of the most devastating aspects of the destruction of the museum was the loss of the museum's Great Hall of Wax Figures which included wax likenesses of Emmett Lee Dickinson (Emily Dickinson's third cousin, twice removed -- at her request) and Dickinson family members. Many of the wax figures were created by Gutzon Borglum, the creator of Mount Rushmore.
However, we have exciting news: The Yankee Candle Company has announced a fund-raising campaign in support of our efforts to rebuild. The company has developed a series of wonderful Dickinson-themed candles in an array of delightful ebon colors, and 10% of all sales will go toward our rebuilding efforts.
