Colin Powell was the most recent target of an email hack. Prior to him came the hacked emails of Olympic athletes. Prior to that, the DNC. Before the DNC came the hack of Pope Francis (who called Kathy Griffin “an international disgrace”). Before the Vatican hack there were the hacks of Jimmy Kimmel (who called Conan O’Brien a “little monster”), SONY executives (one of whom called Angelina Jolie a “minimally talented spoiled brat”), and Flo the Progressive Insurance spokesperson (who said of Ivanka Trump, “that bitch is so rachet she actually thinks I care about her skanky ways”).
There have been so many hacks recently, we really need to consider changing Thumper’s aphorism, “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say nothin’ at all” to “If you can’t type something nice, don’t type it in an email.”
Of course all of the recent hack attacks reminded us of Emmett Lee Dickinson’s now-classic poem “The Hacks of Private syllables” (below on the left). Dickinson’s poem inspired third-cousin Emily to pen her poem, “The Hills in Purple syllables” (below on the right).
