Liar-in-Chief Donald Trump has for months claimed that no one from his campaign had communications with Vladimir Putin’s regime in Russia. Except, of course, Michael Flynn did. And so did Jared Kushner and Paul Manafort. Oh, and so did his son Donald, Jr.
Of course, the lies are nothing new from Trump and his clan. Why, even Confederate General Sessions lied under oath.
Jeff Sessions is so adept at lying that he gave advice to Donald Trump, Jr, today before the younger Trump live-tweeted his treason: “Say what you mean," said Confederate General Sessions. "I always do," Donny hastily replied; "at least--at least I always mean what I say--that's the same thing, you know." "Not the same thing a bit!" said Sessions. "You might just as well say that ‘I have no knowledge about the exchange of information during the campaign between Trump’s surrogates and intermediaries with the Russian government’ is the same thing as ‘I answered the question correctly but I need to amend my testimony!’” |
All of this calls to mind a poem by Emmett Lee Dickinson (Emily Dickinson's third cousin, twice removed -- at her request) that begins "If forgetting is remembering" (below on the left). It is quite evident that this poem inspired Confederate Sessions and others within the Trump clan, but it also inspired third cousin Emily to pen her poem "If recollecting were forgetting" (below on the right).
By Emmett Lee Dickinson: If forgetting is recollecting Then I remember all, But if recollecting, forgetting, How little I'd recall, And if to lie, were truthful, And if the truth, were lies, How very blithe the telling Of all my alibis! | By Emily Dickinson: If recollecting were forgetting, Then I remember not, And if forgetting, recollecting, How near I had forgot, And if to miss, were merry, And to mourn, were gay, How very blithe the fingers That gathered this, today! |
