I was in Luray, Virginia, this weekend for a meeting of the Shenandoah Chapter of the Dickinson Organization of Poetry Enthusiasts. After the meeting, I walked the streets and took pictures of some old and weary buildings.
I've posted photos and poems before about abandoned places, but these weren't abandoned -- just closed up and quiet.
| By Emily Dickinson: Great Streets of silence led away To Neighborhoods of Pause – Here was no Notice — no Dissent No Universe – no laws – By Clocks, 'twas Morning, and for Night The Bells at Distance called – But Epoch had no basis here For Period exhaled. |

While I was in the area, I also drove up to New Market to visit the Virginia Museum of the Civil War. It was a small but informative museum -- and it had a wonderful stained glass window.
