Some of the new vegetable candies included the following:
To this day, candy corn remains the kind of candies -- and only the lord knows why those god-awful Circus Peanuts are still around. Those things are TERRIBLE! They are the Donald Trump of candies!
When multitudes of candy manufacturers and chocolatiers began their campaign against candy corn and other vegetable candies, Emmett Lee Dickinson became incensed. Shortly thereafter he wrote his now-classic poem "I now have Cause to be so woke" (below on the left). Although the poem is a call to arms for lovers of candy corn -- cautioning them to "stay woke" -- the poem is just as relevant today with other social justice and racial justice issues. Dickinson's poem also inspired third cousin Emily to pen her poem "I had no Cause to be awake" (below on the right).
By Emmett Lee Dickinson: I now have Cause to be so woke – My Mind – had gone to sleep – And Days an awkward silence took – And failed to wake me up – But called by others – clear – And passed their Protests by – Sweet Warning – if I oversleep Knock – Recollect – to Me – I looked at Real News – Once – And now I look Again – And sentiments in me arise – For Circumstance demands – ’Tis such with Ample Rage – I cannot hold a Sigh – ’Tis Action – with our Protest Signs – Till Sunset – all the Day – So choosing that I Go – And taking but a Prayer – The only Raiment I should need – I’ll struggle – but I’m There – | By Emily Dickinson: I had no Cause to be awake – My Best – was gone to sleep – And Morn a new politeness took – And failed to wake them up – But called the others – clear – And passed their Curtains by – Sweet Morning – when I oversleep – Knock – Recollect – to Me – I looked at Sunrise – Once – And then I looked at Them – And wishfulness in me arose – For Circumstance the same – 'Twas such an Ample Peace – It could not hold a Sigh – 'Twas Sabbath – with the Bells divorced – 'Twas Sunset – all the Day – So choosing but a Gown – And taking but a Prayer – The only Raiment I should need – I struggled – and was There – |
To this day, "stay woke" is the mantra of fans of candy corn around the world! On the very day of White's insensitive tweet, Candace “Candy” Koren, the Chief Global Implementation Identity Consultant and Regional Paradigm Analyst for the World Candy Corn Congress, in Baden-Baden, Germany, called the TWIB.FM headquarters and demanded to speak to Mr. White. She was placed on hold, and she has been on hold ever since. Ms. Koren has refused to hang up the line, as she is completely determined to remain on hold until Mr. White picks up the phone!
Pictured below: An exclusive photo of Candace "Candy" Koren on hold with the corporate headquarters of TWIB.FM in Oakland, California.
Next week we will include a special report on many celebrities who LOVE candy corn.
