Hanging by a Thread

NOTE: The info below was originally posted earlier in the month when Meta's "Threads" app was launched. The app exploded with record numbers of users who were leaving Twitter -- now re-branded as "X" -- which is now even more of a wasteland of racists, White Supremacists, and conspiracy theorists.

What a difference a day makes, huh?

LOL -- I'm talking about micro-blogging online (hmm...is it even still referred to as "microblogging"?).

I used to "tweet" on Twitter for The Dickinson Museum (i.e., this online museum dedicated to the life and poetry of Emmett Lee Dickinson, Emily Dickinson's third cousin, twice removed -- at her request); however, when Melon Husk took over and allowed hate speech to proliferate, we'd had enough -- so our Board decided to delete the museum's account. We here at the ELD Museum want NOTHING to do with social platforms that advocate and advance Fascism and neo-Nazi ideology promoted by today's GQP(formerly the GOP) and Imperial Grand Wizard Donald Trump.

Well, this week, META inaugurated a similar platform called "Threads" through its Instagram app. I thought, "why not," and when I got word that the platform was live, so I signed up. LOL -- I was one of the "early adopters" (among the first 2 million users).

In tribute to the kick-off of Threads and the demise of Twitter, I have posted Emmett Lee Dickinson's poem "To mend my tattered Faith" below on the left. Dickinson's poem inspired third cousin to pen her poem "To mend each tattered Faith," below on the right.

Twitter is now a cesspool of alternative "facts" and twisted inaccuracies spewed by unethical and evil Republicans who are determined to destroy our democracy in the hopes of establishing a "Christian"-based authoritarian regime.

As a result, I am going to leave Twitter at the end of the year. I have created an account on Counter Social, @Route10.

Therefore, if you access our "Featured Poems of the Week" via links on Twitter, then please know that those links will cease to be available as of January 1, 2023.

Our Twitter account was offline for awhile due to this issue:

LOL -- I was suspended for telling a has-been porn star to "jump in the Cement Pond." That's just talk from the Beverly Hillbillies TV show for "swimming pool." And why not? A swimming pool is an expected extension to a tennis pavilion, no?

Anyway, I appealed the ruling but it's been two weeks, and I never heard anything back from Twitter -- so I figured the grifter's third lady just wasn't worth waiting for a response from Twitter so I deleted the tweet. Sooo....now I'm back.

There was a day recently when Trump tweeted 126 times. I don’t know if this was his record for a day, but if he were awake for 16 hours, then he tweeted once every seven and a half minutes.

Every seven and a half minutes.

Trump's been under fire recently for a variety of tweets. He just can't give it a rest. Then he tweeted this...

What Trump can't separate is that while tweeting might be modern, he is anything but presidential.

First of all, he's a liar -- well beyond the level of the "little white lie" or "stretching the truth" of most other politicians. Trump is more like a pathological liar.

Then what's with the constant name calling, the cyber-bullying, the intimidation, and the abuse of power? I don't think those qualities are even remotely presidential.

Trump's rationalization for his tweets reminded me of Emmett Lee Dickinson's poem "It did not surprise me" (below on the left). Dickinson's poem inspired third cousin Emily to pen her poem with the same first line (below on the right).

'm not sure to whom Dickinson was referring in the poem, but the gist of the poem fits Trump to a T.

I'm not sure if Emmett Lee Dickinson's poem will inspire Trump to do the right thing, but maybe he'll take a cue from his old pal Sarah Palin and just resign?

On a side note, how is Melania's anti-cyber-bullying campaign going?

Yesterday, June 30th, was Social Media Day. Today is Social Media Addiction Day.

In 2002, Dr. Nabendu Attwifi opened the 4000+ room Washerst Center for Social Media Addiction in Washerst, PA (the birthplace of Emmett Lee Dickinson). Addicts are trained in Dr. Attwifi's 34-step program, and all patients are required to document their progress via Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Vine, Blogger, Word Press, and Tumblr.

Perhaps Dickinson's poem will inspire you to write something other than a tweet? The poem did inspire third cousin Emily to pen her poem with the same opening line (below on the right).

A Novel Idea!

It’s November, otherwise known as NaNoWriMo by aspiring novelists who are trying to write a complete novel in one month. NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month. We’re just too busy to participate in the challenge, though. It’s enough for us to write an occasional plog post (poetry blog) and/or to publish the Featured Poems of the Week (HERE).

A few years ago, the Emmett Lee Dickinson Museum (above the coin-op laundromat on Dickinson Boulevard) offered a practical and sensible alternative to NaNoWriMo through an initiative called NaTwiReTweMo, National Twitter Retweeting Month. We figured if people were too busy to write a novel, they could at least log into Twitter and retweet someone else’s tweets now and then using the hashtag #NaTwiReTweMo. Highlights from past years of retweeting are HERE.

We have to admit, though, that we’ve been so busy this year we’ve had difficulty finding the time to retweet others’ tweets! Therefore, we are currently working with world-famous computer specialist jack Hacker to develop the Twitbit, a Twitter activity tracker with wireless-enabled wearable technology.

The Twitbit will buzz on the wearer's wrist if he/she hasn't tweeted at least 10 times in a ten minute period. Plus, it will measure the number of tweets tweeted, the quality of the tweets, the number of likes and retweets, and other personal Twitter metrics. We’ll keep you posted on the development of this exciting new product! Hopefully, they will be ready just in time for the 2016 Shopping Season.*

*Formerly known as the “Holiday Season.”
