Today marked my 500th entry, and here's what I posted:
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay! May we all chortle in joy as this is my 500th #DickinsonDaily post! And how to celebrate?
I figured I’d go galumphing back to when my words went snicker-snack, back when the borogoves were all mimsy and the mome raths outgrabe.
Okay – enough of the jabberwocky-talkie and back to Dickinson. I thought I’d post two bits of info from my earliest posts. First, my initial post asked something like, “Do you know how Emily Dickinson referred to birds?” And the answer: “Nature’s little poets.” Then this info might have been the second post – I mentioned why Dickinson is referred to as “the Belle of Amherst.” In a letter from 1845 to her friend Abiah Root (Dickinson was 14 years old), the poet wrote, “I am growing handsome very fast indeed! I expect I shall be the belle of Amherst when I reach my 17th year. I don't doubt that I shall have perfect crowds of admirers at that age. Then how I shall delight to make them await my bidding, and with what delight shall I witness their suspense while I make my final decision. But away with my nonsense.” The complete letter is HERE. |
