We visited a local winery yesterday and made some delicious sangria according to this recipe (although we cut the recipe in half and only used one bottle of wine):
2 Bottles of White Wine
5 Cups Apple Cider
1 Cup Caramel Vodka (we used Apple Vodka)
2 Cups Ginger Ale
Cut apples and pears into small cubes and place in the bottom of a pitcher. Combine the wine, cider and Vodka. Stir well the place in fridge for one to two hours. Add cinnamon sticks one hour before serving. Add ginger ale, stir, and serve over ice.
By Emily Dickinson:
"Heaven" – is what I cannot reach!
The Apple on the Tree –
Provided it do hopeless – hang –
That – "Heaven" is – to Me!

Below left: A few summers ago, I attended the EDIS conference in Amherst, and I purchased this print of Emily Dickinson's Homestead done by a local artist. Alas, I don't recall her name. The painting includes a portion of the Dickinson family orchard.
