Jim Asher, the world's leading authority on Emmett Lee Dickinson (Emily Dickinson's third cousin, twice removed -- at her request), is also a composer and lyricist, and the Black Box Players of Charlottesville, VA, opens their production of "A Christmas Carol" tomorrow night, a musical that features 18 original songs by Mr. Asher -- and since December has rolled around again, we thought we'd post the lyrics to his song "It's December Again" below. This poingant ballad is sung by the young-adult Scrooge and his girlfreind Belle at Fezziwig's before they part ways. It’s December again
And I wonder how much snow will fall this year
Or if the north wind will be gentle or severe –
It’s December again.
It’s December again
When the days are merely shadows of their past
The warmth from fading fires never seems to last –
It’s December again.
So let Christmas bring us together.
So let Christmas bring joy forever.
And let all mankind
At Christmas time
Find peace.
It’s December again
When the sun’s uncertain light is cold and dim
Indifferent to a brilliant past that might have been –
It’s December again.
It’s December again
When the silent frost keeps doors and windows closed
The callous fallen leaves have left our hearts exposed –
It’s December again.
So let Christmas bring us together.
So let Christmas bring joy forever.
And let all mankind
At Christmas time
Find peace.
This is my wish for all the world to hear –
That Christmas would bring love,
That Christmas would bring joy,
That Christmas would bring peace
All year.
