I sat at the piano and pecked out a tune that I thought matched the words and mood of the poem. Then I wrote out some chords that fit the melody. Then I played the tune -- and I realized that I had re-written Pachelbel's Canon in D!
Dickinson's poem is short too, so writing a song was a little challenging because the entire song would last -- say what? -- about 25 to 30 seconds?
Sooo...here's what I decided to do -- along the lines of, "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em": I combined my melody with parts of Pachelbel's Canon. The results are below. Click the images to enlarge.
