With Donald Trump, the Swamp King, the swamp just keeps getting swampier and swampier and swampier.
Seriously, can anyone even count how many scandals Trump is involved with?
I’m surprised, though, that a particularly dreadful story of one of the latest Swamp Monsters to emerge, Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, has gotten lost in all of the recent muck: just as Kennedy announced his retirement, it came to light that Kennedy's son gave a billion dollar loan to Trump when no one else would give him a dime. Now Trump has nominated a replacement for Kennedy who believes that the president has the power to pardon himself -- and if such an absurd case were to make it to the Supreme Court, he would support Trump’s ludicrous logic.
This nauseating story called to mind a poem by Emmett Lee Dickinson's poem called "So baffled when I learned it" (below on the left). Dickinson's poem inspired third cousin Emily to pen her poem "So bashful when I spied her" (below on the right).
By Emmett Lee Dickinson: So baffled when I learned it! So outraged – so alarmed! So hidden in his secrets Lest anybody find – So breathless when the press broke – So hopeless when I turned And bore on, wondering, fuming, His simple haunts beyond! From whom he borrowed Billions – From whom he tapped the Well – Many will doubtless ask him, But he will never tell! | By Emily Dickinson: So bashful when I spied her! So pretty – so ashamed! So hidden in her leaflets Lest anybody find – So breathless till I passed her – So helpless when I turned And bore her, struggling, blushing, Her simple haunts beyond! For whom I robbed the Dingle – For whom betrayed the Dell – Many will doubtless ask me, But I shall never tell! |
