The press keeps unstacking the Russian dolls. The un-fake press. The press that tells the truth. The press that reveals and documents the rising swamp waters of the Trump administration. What will be nested inside that last doll when all is said and done?
This entire nefarious, sordid affair calls to mind a poem from the late-1800s by Emmett Lee Dickinson (Emily Dickinson's third cousin, twice removed -- at her request), "I pledge the truth" (below on the left). Dickinson's poem inspired third cousin Emily to pen her poem, "I keep my pledge" (below on the right).
By Emmett Lee Dickinson: I pledge the truth. I was not called – Russia did not notice me. I raise my Hand I promise again, By every holy Saint – When Congress calls from the hillside – The Bolshevik campaign? Putin and I? My oath is mine – (Make Russia great again). | By Emily Dickinson: I keep my pledge. I was not called – Death did not notice me. I bring my Rose. I plight again, By every sainted Bee – By Daisy called from hillside – by Bobolink from lane. Blossom and I – Her oath, and mine – Will surely come again. |
