Bone spurs are nothing to joke about, so please get checked for bone spurs if you have not already done so! And whether or not bad weather in your area spoils any sort of parade or ceremony, please take some time today to honor those with bone spurs, as November 11 is National Bone Spur Survivors Day!
Emmett Lee Dickinson was right when he wrote that bone spurs give "a pain so utter" as noted in his poem "There is a pain -- so utter" (below on the left). His poem inspired third cousin Emily to pen her poem with the same opening line (below on the right).
By Emmett Lee Dickinson: There is a pain – so utter – It swallows humans up – Then covers their Abyss with Trance – So tender feet can’t step Around – across – upon it – As one who cannot Stir – Go safely – with a deferment – Escape it – Spur by Spur. | By Emily Dickinson: There is a pain – so utter – It swallows substance up – Then covers the Abyss with Trance – So Memory can step Around – across – upon it – As one within a Swoon – Goes safely – where an open eye – Would drop Him – Bone by Bone. |
