There is a National School Walkout planned for this Wednesday, March 14, 2018. One of the objectives for the walkout is to mark the one month anniversary of the school shooting in Parkland, Florida. Information about the walkout is HERE.
Of course, school shootings have been a part of our society for years, dating back to the 1800s. The first school shooting took place in 1853 when a student was killed at the Evelyn Nesbit HIgh School in New York City. Congress took no action in response to the killing -- because all of its members were paid off and controlled by the NRA.
Emmett Lee Dickinson (Emily Dickinson's third cousin, twice removed -- at her request) was incensed by the lack on action on the part of congress. In response to the shooting and congress' apathy, Dickinson wrote "In his short Life" (below on the left). His poem inspired third cousin Emily to pen her poem "In this short Life" (below on the right).
