My wife and I visited the Assateague Island National Seashore on the Eastern Shore of Virginia for some bird watching this past week. While there, we explored sandy beaches, salt marshes, maritime forests, and coastal bays on the island, and we saw a wonderful variety of birds.
Below: Parts of the beach on the island are cordoned off to protect nesting areas of endangered species.
Below: About 60 or 70 feet away from us, two Bald Eagles landed and took turns dining on a fish.
Below: A few other species of birds we saw. Click the images to enlarge.
