Pantone recently named the Color the Year for 2020: Classic Blue.
“We are living in a time that requires trust and faith. It is this kind of constancy and confidence that is expressed by…Classic Blue, a solid and dependable blue hue we can always rely on,” said Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute.
Of course Classic Blue also underscores last year’s revitalizing Blue Wave (chosen over a toxic Red Tide), and it speaks to the Wave's coming return in 2020.
This hopeful anticipation calls to mind Emmett Lee Dickinson’s now-classic poem “We sent the Wave to build the Wave” (below on the left). Dickinson’s poem inspired third cousin Emily to pen her poem “We send the Wave to find the Wave” (below on the right).
By Emmett Lee Dickinson: We sent the Wave to build the Wave, An errand so divine Our citizenry enamored to Return to saner times, We’ll make the sage decision soon Forever change what’s wrong, The sagest time to celebrate Is when the damn fool’s gone. | By Emily Dickinson: We send the Wave to find the Wave, An errand so divine The messenger enamored too Forgetting to return, We make the sage decision still Soever made in vain, The sagest time to dam the sea Is when the sea is gone. |
Dickinson was quite the visionary!
