At a recent Milwaukee Brewers’ baseball game, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie confronted a Chicago Cubs’ fan, calling him a “big shot.” The whole brouhaha began when the Cubs’ fan saw Christie and yelled out his opinion: “You suck.” Shortly after that, Christie approached the man, and the commotion was caught on camera.
Of course, when people saw photos of the commotion, many immediately made a connection to Emily Dickinson.
Why?
Because Christie was holding a tub of nachos, the popular snack originally invented by Dickinson. We wrote about Dickinson's tasty treat HERE.
However, there was also a connection to Emmett Lee Dickinson (Emily Dickinson’s third cousin, twice removed – at her request). What was the link to Emily Dickinson’s third cousin?
In the photograph on the stadium confrontation, Christie was wearing high-waisted pants – with the waistline almost up to his armpits.
This style of pants – popular with Christie – was invented by Emmett Lee Dickinson, and he called them “waddle pants.”
Pictured below, Gov. Chris Christie frequently wears "waddle pants," the fashion trend popularized by Emmett Lee Dickinson in the late 1800s.
