From the ELD Museum Board of Directors: We at the Emmett Lee Dickinson Museum have this website and a Twitter account (@The_Dickinson); however, we do not facebook (if one can use "facebook" as a verb). Since we don't facebook, we cannot join the Facebook group "Poets Against Trump." However, we would join if we could -- you know, if we facebooked. Why are we against Trump? Well, in addition to our disgust with his misogyny, his racism, his homophobia, his xenophobia, and his other brands of hatred, we are repulsed by his bullying, his cyber-bullying and his maltreatment of anyone and everyone with a different point-of-view or anyone who won't bow down to his massive and fragile ego. We are also completely disturbed by his unstable and precarious mental state (which is completely and wholly frightening). |
A friend of ours who knows that we don't facebook sent us a post from Facebook which we thought was very eloquent as to why many are against Trump (right) (I've blocked out the facebooker's name because I don't know the individual personally). And then there's this tweet (below) from one who considered giving Trump a chance: Unlike Mr. Wales, we were not convinced to give Trump 100 days. Instead, we were moved by the words of Martin Luther King, Jr.: "In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends." By the way, Donald Trump -- the "great unifier" himself -- tweeted out that we who opposed him are, in fact, his "enemies" (below) (yes, the man, who on election night, claimed he'd be the president of "all" Americans). |
By Emmett Lee Dickinson: I’ll take thee on, the Poet said For your disgusting words I'll battle with the President And damage he incurs – The Poet speaks with Honesty Albeit with a sting For the offensive President When he is summoned in – The glimpse of his dark Vision The World appalled to hear Now that he’s been elected To reveal his reign of fear – | By Emily Dickinson: Shall I take thee, the Poet said To the propounded word? Be stationed with the Candidates Till I have finer tried – The Poet searched Philology And when about to ring For the suspended Candidate There came unsummoned in – That portion of the Vision The Word applied to fill Not unto nomination The Cherubim reveal – |
