10. The water cooler
Of course, when it comes to coffee and coffee breaks, no poet has written more poems on the subject than Emmett Lee Dickinson (check HERE for some examples). He also wrote a number of other poems about work, office politics, and the rumor mill. One of his most famous poems about gossip, "The talk as fast as Rumors grow," is below on the left. His poem inspired third cousin Emily to pen her poem "They talk as slow as Legends grow," below on the right.
By Emmett Lee Dickinson: They talk as fast as Rumors grow The boardroom on their mind With voltage of hostility And tales that intertwine – They laugh at lies as Plots do Twist Predestined to unfold The point with damned revision Portentously is told. | By Emily Dickinson: They talk as slow as Legends grow No mushroom is their mind But foliage of sterility Too stolid for the wind -- They laugh as wise as Plots of Wit Predestined to unfold The point with bland prevision Portentously untold. |
