Harold Ramis, who attended the Emmett Lee Dickinson School for Boys in Chicago, was a great aficionado of Emmett Lee Dickinson, and he suggested the change in the movie from “Poetbusters” to “Ghostbusters” based on Dickinson’s “There comes an hour when shrieking starts.” He also cited Dickinson’s now-classic poem “My ghost Acquaintances are those” (below on the left). Dickinson’s poem also inspired third cousin Emily to pen her poem with the same opening line (below on the right).
By Emmett Lee Dickinson: My ghost Acquaintances are those With Whom I speak no Word – The Spirits in the Neighborhood When something’s always Weird – And so ask “Who ya gonna Call?” Then wait for their reply – In constant – existential Space Suspicious Fantasy | By Emily Dickinson: My best Acquaintances are those With Whom I spoke no Word – The Stars that stated come to Town Esteemed Me never rude Although to their Celestial Call I failed to make reply – My constant – reverential Face Sufficient Courtesy. |
